Central Park is an amazing place to get great landscape photographs. I was just out strolling one day with my camera and two lenses and decided to turn in to Central Park and what an amazing time I had. The green in the trees and grass is so rich and if you just look around you can get a shot like this one. Wen taking photographs of popular places the only way for your photo to be unique is to stand at a different point from where everyone else is standing. If you follow this one technique, you can photograph the same location and your photos will look different. Try it. Look where everybody is standing and stand at a different angle.
It is time for graduations all over the country. Almost every parent, family and friend will be armed with a camera to take photos. You have some options in the matter. Most colleges hire a photography studio to take the photos and the studio then sells the photos to the graduates in packages. Personally speaking, I think you only need two- one receiving your diploma and the other with you in front of the flag. The other option is for you to hire a photographer.
Based on my perspective of graduations, the day is really about the graduate and those who helped them realize their dream. So the real photos are those after the ceremony. The photos with mom, dad, grandma and grandpa and all the others who helped the graduate over the two, four, seven or ten year journey. Two or three sometimes up to four friends can come together and hire a photographer who will capture the photos with the family and friends. From years of doing this- I can tell you it is priceless. The other option is to have your camera with you and take selfies or ask your friends to take your photos.
If you insist on doing it yourself or asking relatives make sure they have a zoom lens. A lens than can zoom up to 300feet away is a good start because they probably will not get close to the stage. Don’t just focus on you, get photos with your friends, professors, get the location of the ceremony. Get signs showing the college, school etc. Get a wide angle lens for the broad perspective. Make sure you get the family photos with grandma and grandpa.
If you have a lunch or dinner afterwards, keep your graduation gown and cap on. You do not graduate everyday- celebrate the moment. Then print your photos, don’t just post the photos to social websites. Most local pharmacies have printing kiosks and you can even email your photos and pick up your prints afterwards.
Congratulations to the graduclass of 2014.
Football is played during fall and winter yet people are wondering why is Super Bowl XLVIII being held in New York City. Well, football is a cold weather sport even though all the teams are not in cold weather states. Embrace the new and broaden your horizon. A little cold is good. Come! Furthermore, there is no place like New York City where you can have fun and be part of the Super Bowl spirit even if you do not have a lot of money to attend the expensive special events.
I was out yesterday getting photographs for my magazine and the city is definitely ready. I took a walk down Super Bowl Boulevard and despite the cold weather, preparations were in full swing. In Times Square, Fox Sports were busy setting up their broadcast booth and they had a good crowd looking on. Macy’s in Herald Square at 34th Street and Broadway (this is where Super Bowl Boulevard begins) is all decorated with life size NFL statues and on the 4th floor, it is all about the Super Bowl. This is where you get the official Super Bowl XLVIII gear, trading pins, posters and you will also have the opportunity to take your photo with celebrities.
This is New York City, this is the city that never sleeps, and as one sign on a football said, “SNOW, SLEET or HAIL MARY!” Yes, people of the world, come to New York City and New Jersey (yes, Met Life Stadium is in New Jersey) and enjoy the best Super Bowl ever. It is going to be epic and you want to be here.
New York City and Times Square 2013- the unbeatable combination. In a few hours crowds will gather in Times Square, New York City to watch the ball drop and ring in 2014. Many people cannot wait to see 2013 go because it has been such a difficult year, while others are glad they made it so far.
The end of the year is not only a time to look back, but also to look forward to the new year with hope. The more hopeful you are about the new year is the better it will be. This is not the time to think negative thoughts, as a matter of fact if you are going to think- think positive. Also, for this new year, avoid negative people at all costs because they will suck the very life out of your vision and leave you hopeless. Life is full of possibilities even in difficult or challenging times.
In 2014, do not just make resolutions but act resolutions. The best laid plans need action on your part. If you do not take action on your resolutions no one else will.
Happy New Year 2014, and think big and think positive. If you are coming to New York City, bring your camera and dress warm.
See the Apple iPad Air by clicking on this link. http://www.apple.com
I had a chance to look at the features of the new iPad known as iPad air and the truth is it is very light. It makes for easy holding and compared to the 4th generation, that alone is worth getting the new iPad air.
Apple is consistently consistent with their products and they do not make sweeping changes from one model to the next. I think the reason for that is so they can add whatever is missing in the next generation products in the series. So guess what? In 6 months you can bet there will be an ipad Air 2 which will have an improved camera or some new feature that is not on the AIr. Notice their pattern, they could have easily put Retina display in their first iPad mini. But they did not. If you bought the ipad mini and you want the new one you could trade it in, and get the newer model.
Christmas is going to see a lot of tablets being given for gifts and i am sure the ipad AIr and the new iPad mini will top the sales again. If you have not yet seen the iPad Air, go into t store and go try it out. You will be amazed if for no other feature, but for how light it is. It beats you carrying around a heavy laptop on a daily basis. So, the verdict is in on the new iPad Air. Will you love it or leave it? I say love it.
Fall is an awesome time to get out there with your camera and capture some vivid color. depending on where you live, the leaves might just start changing color, but, you are not limited to one geographic location. My tip today is to just get on a bicycle or take a bus or train ride in your area and you will be pleasantly surprised. In New York state, the further north you go the better color you will see at this time. in the city areas, the leaves do not start giving you great color until the end of October. The photo below is that of Central Park in New York City. The leaves have not yet changed color, but I will be going back to this location as soon as they change and you will see the colors. Today, get your camera and walk, ride or take the bus and start capturing some great fall colors.
Visit my website and book your New York City photo shoot today. Anyone can give you a good photo with the help of Photoshop, but what mileposts Productions will give you is a great experience and great photos.
Photography is great all year round and summer is a wonderful time to get out there and take amazing photos. Let us look at some summer photography tips and ideas to take photos that you will be proud of.
Firstly, let us make it very clear that having a good camera is great, but if you know what you are doing you will get great shots even with a throwaway camera. In other words, the person behind the camera is just as important as the camera you are using. So, the first tip is to work with what you have.
Travel photography is wonderful, but you do not have to travel far. Right in your neighborhood, town, city and state, there are interesting things to photograph. The second tip is that you do not have to travel far to get great photos. You can photograph at the same location at different times of the day from different angles and so on.
The next thing to note is that you do not need a lot of gear. One camera (take off the lens cover and get a haze filter on it), a zoom lens, a monopod, a diffuser, memory card (class 10 or the fastest speed your camera will take) rechargeable batteries and your charger. Many people have tablets, so if you have one it is much lighter and smaller to carry around so you can always back up your photos at the end of the day or as you go along. That is it for now. Please feel free to post comments and in my next post you will see some photos.
Tonight the New York Knicks have the awesome opportunity to send the Boston Celtics off to a long summer. For the New York Knicks, this is Game 7. If the Knicks lose tonight they might very well lose the series and that would be a colossal failure. Knicks fans believe they will prevail and we expect them to go on to the NBA finals and win it. If you do not have that kind of faith – that’s alright.
Everyone seems to agree that in the National Football League (NFL), business is business and the NY Jets releasing of Tim Tebow today was just business. That might very well be true, but there is a way to conduct business. Would any of these men i the Jets organization like an employer to treat their son like that?
When Tim Tebow came to New York last year, he was asked to appear at a press conference where neither Rex, Woody or any of Jets management was present. That should have been the first red flag. Then throughout the season, despite the terrible play by Sanchez, Tebow was never given a chance to play quarterback. To add insult to injury, the Jets waited until all the other teams had filled their rosters before releasing him. That was just wrong.
Tebow handled himself with class and the classless Jets ruined this young man’s career with an unceremonious dismissal. Where is he going to get a job now? Is he as terrible as everyone is making out. He took the Denver Broncos much further than where Peyton took them this season. That should count for something.
New Year’s Eve 2012
New Year’s Eve is an exciting tome to be in New York City. There is the excitement of the ball being dropped in Times Square, there is Rockefeller Center, Bryant Park, basketball at Madison Square Garden and Barclay center, Broadway shows, and the famous Rockettes at Radio City Music Hall. How can we forget the fine restaurants, Statue of Liberty, World Trade Center, 9/11 Memorial, shopping and so much more. As you can see, thee is absolutely no place like New York City no matter what time of year, but even more so during the Christmas and New Year. This year promises to be bigger and better. So, let’s narrow it down for you by giving you more specific information on a few top events, how to get around, stay warm and be safe all at the same time. Ready?
Times Square is the crosswords of New York city and indeed the world. It is where Broadway, 42nd Street, and 7th Avenue all come together. Several subway trains stop at Times Square and if you are going to see the ball drop, subway should be your mode of transportation. Several trains including A C E N Q R S 1, 2,3, and 7 lines. You can truly get there from any of the five boroughs with ease. If you are visiting New York from another state or country, the newly renovated Times Square Museum and Visitors Center is a must see. The center is located at 1560 Broadway, but the entrance is on 7th Avenue between 46th/47th Street. You can also call them at 212-452-5283 for specific information regarding New Year’s Eve 2012 as well as theater discounted tickets. It should be understood that if you are coming to New York and Times Square you need to bring your camera. If possible, also thttp://www.milepostsproductions.com/wp-admin/post.php?post=846&action=edit&message=10#ravel with a small stool to sit on.
Times Square is a lot of fun and is always crowded, so be careful with your cameras, pocket books, wallets, and jewelery. In Times Square you can do your shopping, find hotel accommodations, get theater tickets, take pictures or just do people watching. Whatever you do, it will be a lot of fun. As this blog post is being written we are 4 days 11 hrs 55 mins and 10 secs away from the New Year 2013. Places you can eat include Olive Gardens, Red Lobster, Bubba Gump to name a few. Just around the corner is Dave and Buster’s, McDonalds, Coldstone Icecream, and many more awesome places to grab a bite or sit down and eat.
Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree
The most famous Christmas Tree in the world is located in New York City at the Rockefeller Center which is located at 30 Rockefeller Plaza which is bounded by 5th/6th Avenues and 48-51st Streets. The trees is an 80ft Norway spruce from Flanders, NJ, and it is lit with more than 30,000 LED lights. At the top is a Swarovski star. The tree will be up until January 7, 2013. There is always a crowd so earlier go early or late if you want to avoid the crowd. While you are there, just step into the NBC Studios, shop at the stores in Rockefeller Plaza and go to the Top of the Rock for a breathtaking view of Manhattan. The number to the Plaza is 212-588-8601.
Bryant Park is amazing during this time of year. There are shops, a skating rink, places to sit and sip hot chocolate, read, or just sit and talk with friends or strangers who might become friends. Bryant Park is a fun place all year round, but in winter they have the skate rink and guess what, it is free. Bryant Park is located next to the New York Public Library at 40th Street between 5th /6th avenues. Just go by and have fun.
In my next post I will do FAO Schwartz, World Financial Center Garden of Lights, and St. Patrick’s Cathedral. If you u enjoyed this post or found it informative, please add your comments and please share via Twitter, Facebook and yes, the two of you on My Space- that’s fine too.
This is the first in a series of posts on the best places to visit and the special holiday events in New York City during the holidays and winter. Trust that you will not miss one post especially if you are planning a trip to New York. Tonight at 7pm the world’s most famous Christmas Tree will be lit at the Rockefeller Center in New York City. If yo are from out of state, please get there early so you can get a good spot. As expected, there is always a huge crowd.
Rockefeller Center is famous for many things New York. At the very top of the building you have Top of the Rock where yo get the most magnificent view of New York city. Inside Rockefeller Center there is also the famous NBC Studios (a daily tour is available) and several shops and restaurants. Of course, there is also the skating rink and not far away some really great stores.
Getting to Rockefeller Center is very simple if you take the subway. If you can get to Times Square you can walk over or you can take the B,D, and F trains to 47th Street Rockefeller Center. If you cannot make it tonight to the ceremony, the tree will be there until about January 7th or so. Try to get your picture before it starts drying up. If you follow me on Twitter you will see a photo by Friday the latest.
If you cannot attend – then watch it live on NBC – Channel 4.
Tomorrow I will write about Bryant Park, another must visit attraction when visiting New York at any time but especially in the winter.
This is just one photo that shows the power of sandy right in Brooklyn, New York. Thank God for what did not happen. On a quick photo walk in the Flatlands area of Brooklyn, this was one of the first things that caught my eye. This is a steel fence that has stood for years and look at it now. But just like this fence, people in New York City might be bent, but we are not broken.
So far 15 New Yorkers have died and we pray for those families that they will have peace even in this crisis. The subways are still down and so are buses. Governor Cuomo just said that they hope to get transportation up by Wednesday and it will be free for both subway and buses as New Yorkers move about. New Yorkers are survivors and as long as we have life we will rebuild. JFK airport will re-open tomorrow. LaGuardia will not open tomorrow due to extensive damage. All bridges and tunnels, except BATTERY TUNNEL and Rockaway bridges will not re-open tomorrow due to flooding.
More amazing photos to come later. Subscribe to my blog and you will see the photos that you can’t see on television because my crew is going on foot to the streets less traveled to bring you amazing photos of the damage done by the storm Sandy.

There was a tornado sighting in NYC today. Hopefully the rain is gone for good. Let Fall begins. How is your Saturday going? There are great football games on and the NY Yankees have gotten their groove back. They won last night and the big bats are really hitting the ball out the park once again. Essentially, the NY Yankees got their grove back by becoming a healthy team again. At the end of the series with the Orioles, we will see if Bobby Valentine was right when he said the Baltimore Orioles just got lucky.
Enjoy the rest of your Saturday.
The Kidd and the Knicks- great combination. I don’t see the Miami Heat repeating.
I met Jason Kidd in person a few years ago at an event in Brooklyn and he is the nicest person you would ever want to meet. At that time he played for the New Jersey Nets. Now he is coming to help Jeremy Lin and the New York Knicks, only people who are not basketball savvy is mad about this. I think the New York Knicks are looking great now and can challenge for the conference championship. Jason Kidd takes the team up a whole level and I really want to welcome him to New York. You are heading into the right direction.
The graduation season is on in earnest starting from university level in May and making its way on the educational ladder to elementary schools in June. It is a great time to bring out the camera you got as a Mother’s Day gift. If you have ever been to a graduation recently, the proud moms with their cameras are most interesting.
As a professional photographer I have no problems and the moms with their cameras do not move me. I know what I am doing and I know what shots I want. The professional photographer at a graduation is not just firing off shot after shot. They are on assignment and they know exactly what they are looking for. I just want to use this post to offer a few tips to the moms, dads, and family members who will be attending the graduations this season.
Graduation Photo Tips
1. Charge your battery the night before or get fresh batteries before you leave home.
2. Always carry extra batteries. Sometimes you cannot find an outlet to recharge batteries.
3. Memory cards- carry an extra one and make sure one is in your camera. Memory cards are reasonable so when they are on sale pick up a few 4GB and 8GB cards. I do not suggest the 16 GB because you do not want to keep all your pictures on one card just in case the card gets damaged or lost. I prefer to carry 2-8GB cards rather than 1-8GB card.
4. Make sure you have a zoom lens. You are not going to get close enough to your graduate during the ceremony. Most point and shoot have great zooms. If you are using a DSLR make sure have at least a 300mm lens.
5. Have a little book or sticky with a game plan of the shots you want to get on the day of the graduation. It might seem simple, but it is worth taking the time to write them down. It can be as simple as (graduate lining up; graduate seated with class; receiving diploma). Once the ceremony is over it’s time for family and friends, but how cool will you be when you are the only one with shot of the graduate receiving his/her diploma? Make the list.
I just gave five simple tips, but if you think all of that is too much for you to remember and do, then hire somebody. That is what the professionals do and that is why you pay them so they will get the shots that you were not even thinking of. I recently did the graduation photos for a Columbia University graduate and the parents were so proud when thy got their album and showed it to their friends. The friends were asking how did the photographer get that shot, wow. If you follow those tips you will do just fine.
Please provide feedback and share this post if you learned even one thing from it. Now get out there and celebrate your graduate. In my next post I will give you some innovative things you can do with those pictures apart from just posting them to Facebook and Flickr.
Today is the third day of March and the madness has begun. Typically, many companies will unvail new gadgets and of course Apple is always at the forefront. They get your attention every March and not even the death of Steve Jobs is able to stop it. So what are they up to this March? Well, the iPad3 is coming out on March 7, 2012 and rumor has it that it will be sleeker, lighter, faster than the iPad2. That means if you have an iPad2 this is your time to sell it quickly if you intend to get the best price possible. If you were wavering between the iPad2 and the Kindle, this is a no brainer- get the iPad2 for cheap. March is a good time to get the new or get the relatively new at a great price. That is what is so great about March madness.
If you are a photographer you are drooling at the mouth right now because Cannon is releasing a the Canon 5D Mark III with an amazing 21mp. Wow! What are you going to do with so many pixels. This is exciting indeed. Then they are also coming out with a Speedlight Flash 600EX. That is expected to be an upgrade on the 580EX and that was top dog just a few days ago. SO what do you do? Think about it, there was nothing wrong with the 580EX flash so if you always wanted a top of the line flash you can buy it now. I guarantee you will pay far less than what the new 600EX will cost you. Later on down the road you can always get the latest model. I hope that make sense to you.
Canon and Apple are not the only one creating March madness, it’s time for the NCAA basketball tournament and this is beyond madness- this is insanity. They keep doing it year after year thinking it is going to be different, but we love it. March is a happy month for basketball fans. Oh yes! do you follow NCAA or college basketball? I love it because when you follow college basketball you are familiar with the players when they get to the NBA. This year I think Duke, North Carolina, Syracuse, Pittsburgh, Clemson, Kentucky are going to be some major players. Watch out! Join the March Madness!

Dancing With The Stars Is Back for Season 14
The Stars Is Back!
Dancing With The Stars 2012, season 14, ABC at 8p.m. on March 19 is must see television. put it on your calendar right now. Dancing With The Stars cast of 2012 is announced and I like it. is back for another season and it is exciting. This season’s line up is really terrific. Last season I had do idea who some of these stars were, but this season, I know a lot of them and I think that the viewership is going to go through the roof. I believe they have gathered a great group of personalities for this season. It is going to be must watch television. When you think of Gladys Knight, Melissa Gilbert, Donald Driver, Sherri Shepard, Maria Menounos (might just be the favorite due to her dancing partner, Derek), Martina Navratilova (a super athlete), and Gavin DeGraw, just to mention a few, why would you not want to set aside this time as your time every Monday and Tuesday.
DWTS is among the best reality shows
I like Dancing With The Stars because it is one of two or three reality shows that has balance. The other two are The Shark Tank and The Voice. The others are just drama and meanness and craziness. Dancing With The Stars teaches you how to believe in yourself because Bruno and Len will crush you and stomp on you with their words. They can work you up if you don’t know who you are and why you are there. I think when they are critical they are worse than Simon Cowell.
How do you feel about this season? Do you have any predictions as to who will be in the final three? I think Sherri Shepard is going to be among the final three. I will say who the other two I think will be there in tomorrow’s blog.Keep an eye on Maria, Jaleel, and Jack. It is going to be a lot of fun, fun, fun. Are you ready for this? Hope you are. Please share your comments.
Up to Thursday, February 23, 2012, it could be said that the entire world was stricken with linsanity. It seemed that Jeremy Lin could do no wrong and so the New York Knicks to the Linsanity show to South Beach. Big mistake. They should have taken their talents to South Beach.
The Miami Heatles were eagerly waiting to throw some South Beach water on the Linsanity and that was what they did. No one prepared Jeremy Lin for this and the youngster was charmed by Charmers. Of course, as typical human beings the first sign of trouble they jump off the band wagon. No Jeremy Lin is made to look totally out of his element on national television.
Never mind, Jeremy. You are a good point guard. What the Heat taught you was invaluable and you will not learn it from anywhere else. Do not lose your confidence because you will be rewarded. The same way you did not give up and kept showing up time after time until it was recognized that you can play with the best of them, and it paid off for you, it’s the same way you will get over this.
Just understand that basketball is as much physical and skills as it is mental and skills. The other players were just sick and tired of hearing about this Linsanity. Kobe had no idea who you were until you drop 38 on him. Dallas came in and thought you were a push over and you took Jason Kidd down memory lane and you gave your team a win. Now the word is out that you are good, so expect people to come at you. In life, nobody pays attention to you if you are not making an impact. Everybody writes you off until you prove them wrong.
We can all learn from Jeremy and he can learn from the linsanity that surrounded him. Understand that when the enemy rears its ugly head – it’s because it is has heard your name. Don’t let the circumstances of life beat you down because of one failure. Get back up, hold up your head and keep moving forward. If the linsanity is over then the news, sports reporters, business, politicians and others will have nothing to do. For that reason the linsanity must go on. Just the presence of Jeremy Lin at the NBA 2012 All Star game this weekend will be good for all. On Wednesday, the New York Knicks and Jeremy return to the Garden that is, Madison Square Garden, and we shall see what we shall see.
The House That Jeremy Lin Built
Jeremy Lin has certainly brought the magic back to New York Knicks basketball and Madison Square Garden. It is awesome! What an amazing boost for the NBA and sports, and also New York City. Even President Obama commented on it this morning. Tonight is going to be sheer pandemonium at the Garden. Madison Square Garden will soon be known as the house that Lin built. If you are just a casual sports fan you will love what is happening to Jeremy Lin and what is now called linsanity.
Linsanity Is The New Sanity
The good news is that the New York Knicks now have a real point guard. That is why there is no need to worry about Carmelo Anthony or Amare. Everyone will be just fine. The New York Knicks can look and see how Miami Heat big three are playing together and realize that they just need to do the same. The Knicks were lacking a point guard- end of story. Some people think Melo and Amare cannot be on the floor together and that is just because they did not have a point guard. The Knicks now have a good problem- more than enough people to play. Thanks to Lin from Harvard.
Jeremy Lin -Checkmate
Mike D’Antoni must be congratulated for this turn around. Good thing he is the type of coach who does not mind going down the line on the bench. What if D’Antoni did not try something new? Lin would still be sitting on the bench and no one would ever know what he could do. There is a greater lesson here, and that is, you must be prepared when the opportunity comes. Opportunity only shakes hand with the prepared.
Jeremy Lin was prepared. The other lesson to learn from Jeremy Lin is that you should never be upset with people who do not know your value. Don’t fight with them, don’t fuss with them, just stay ready and if you live long enough your time will come. Two teams did not recognize his value and worth, but one did. Also, Jeremy Lin was going to be cut withing two days so he had a small window of time to make an impact and he did. Learn the lesson from Jeremy Lin. Be prepared. Be ready. Do not give up. Your time will surely come. Enjoy the Lin-sanity while it lasts. It is great!
Sol Levit’s exhibition had been on display in City Hall Park for many months during 2011. Hope you had a chance to view it. The above photograph is one one of the pieces.
Congratulations to Eli Manning and the New York Giants on their division championship and another trip to the Super bowl. Today is a great day for New York Giants fans. They are going to SUPERBOWL XLVII in Indianapolis on February 5 and it is going to be PERFECTION. The NY Giants have answered the call to become an elite team and they have answered.
Condolences are in order for the family and friends of the late Joe Paterno, who died of cancer early Sunday morning. A lifetime of excellence cannot be tarnished by one seemingly lapse in good judgment. may his soul rest in peace and my his accomplishments never be forgotten. He deserves that much respect. Let’s give it to him.
Condolences to Baltimore Ravens and San Francisco 49ers whose seasons died yesterday. The good thing for you all is that there is a resurrection. Praise Jehovah! Selah. If you enjoyed this post, tweet it.
How To Make Money From Your Hobby
Hello World Reader,
This is one of the those money making ideas you can do now. Do you like to take pictures? Put them in a book and sell them. If nobody will buy the book, you buy the book and use it as your portfolio. Listen, the government is laying off people, the private companies are laying off people, you have got to find something to do before the pink slip hits you. Turn your hobby into a money making machine. When you are doing what you can do and invest your own money, you don’t have to be scammed out of your hard earned money. My number one recommendation is to start by offering your service for free. You must be saying, FREE! Do you know what time it is? Yes, I do. In my next blog I will tell you the benefits of FREE. Share if you like this and share even if you don’t like it. Maybe someone else will see the wisdom in it. Visit my website at milepostsproductions.
What is your hobby
Many people do many things very well and it is not even what they do for a living. Maybe people commended you for your cake over the holidays, or maybe they ask you to decorate their house, or walk their dog and you enjoy doing it. Then that is something you could turn into cash. You now have to learn to monetize your hobby. It does not mean you are going to charge the neighbor next door an outrageous fee to do the same thing you used to do for free.
Credit and Debit
It seems to me that the banks are realizing that if they do not extend credit they will not make much money in this recession ridden economy. The fact of the matter is that there has to be a partnership between banks and the consumers. I believe that the banks are realizing this because many consumers have turned to debit cards to free themselves from the stranglehold of credit cards.
Most people do not have the cash at the end of the month to pay off what they bought at the beginning of the month and that is how debt creeps up. Take January 2012 for instance, when the credit card bills start coming in the mail, many people will not be able to pay off their holiday purchases. What is the answer, then? Some will say, debit cards. Well, let’s check that option.
The debit card is a great way to keep within your budget. It is like spending cash. That means no matter how much you want to buy something if the money is not in your account you cannot buy it. The debit card is one way of forcing you to stick to your budget. That is the “good” news. The “bad” news is that if you are trying to rebuild your credit it will not help you. Your debit card transactions will not be sent to the three main credit bureaus. That is a big disadvantage because credit is like fire, it can be a good servant and a bad master. You have to control it because if it ever controls you- you could get burned literally and figuratively.
Many people give the impression that if you use a credit card you are going to get into serious debt. That is not always true. Many of you will admit that up to five or ten years ago you really did not know how to budget and use your credit cards wisely. You bought things that depreciated the minute you walked out of the store instead of buying things that would appreciate in value over time. it is good to have a credit card and the benefits of the credit card are quite different from those of the debit card.
Possible Solution?- ASecured Credit Card
Get a secured credit card. A secured credit card will get you back on your feet as you rebuild your credit. They report to the three credit bureaus . In many cases you can 5 deposit as little as $95 and you will get a minimum of $300.00 Be careful with these because the $95 might be processing fee or application fee. There are many options out there, so look them over carefully before applying.
Some companies will refund you your first amount with interest and some have small or no annual fees. Look for those without the annual fees first and then if you have to pay a fee go with the one with the smallest fee. One of the things I noticed as I was doing some research is that some secured cards have no grace period. Avoid those like the plague, because that means interest will be calculated on a daily basis until you pay it. If that is the case you might as well use your debit card.
Watch out for those small things that can cause big problems down the road. The purpose of the secured credit card is to rebuild your credit, so the strategy you want to use is to make small purchases and pay off the entire balance at the end of the month. The issuing company wants to see activity on the card. Don’t get it and don’t use it, but pay off the balance as the bill comes. Tomorrow I will reveal to you the secured credit cards I like best and why.

It is 2012 and after the record Christmas shopping I am sure we could all do with some extra cash in the New Year. So here are five ways you can generate some quick cash. it might not be a lot, but if nobody is going to just bring you $50 or $100, then you should think about these things. What could you do with an extra $50 or $100 per week or even per month?
1.Sell Online. You have shoes and clothes you have not worn in years and they are new with the tags on, sell them on Ebay or Amazon.
2. Start your Mary Kay business. Mary Kay is an opportunity to earn as much extra money as you want to earn. You can build a team or you can just sell the products. You get a website for $50 per year with all the products and people can pay with their credit card. Think about it? Visit the website http://www.marykay.com for more information.
3. Babysitting?Pet-sitting? House-sitting. These are things you can do with very little start up money. You can do this part time for a few extra dollars or you can do it full time. You can even pick up children from school if you drive and keep them until 6pm when their parents come. You can make an extra $50 per child. Check with your state to find out the requirements.
4. Cook. Most people can cook. I’m sure people praised your cooking over the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays. If they work find out – offer to cater their next meeting or event. Maybe you can go to the nearby garage or gas station and offer to prepare lunch for the workers.
5. Bake.Yes! Bake. You can probably make cake or cookies and again, you can offer to cater for local businesses and make cakes for birthdays and other events. Everyday somebody is having a birthday. What if you could have two or three cake orders per week at $20-$30 per cake?
6. House cleaning or days work. Offer to clean and dust somebody’s house and make an extra $75-100 for your day.
These ideas might not be anything new, they might not even make the breaking news, but they might just be reminders that in 2012, nothing is going to just be handed to you. Learn to take action and instead of asking what happened, you make something happen. If you can’t find a job- create a job. Every problem is an opportunity for somebody to make money or provide a service. Be solution oriented rather than problem oriented and you will turn your questions into answers. Go for it!
NY Giants Can Win Superbowl!
On Sunday Eli Manning and the New York Giants played like a team on a mission. They played like they had been to the playoffs mountain top and seen the promise land, and they want to get there. That tells me they can play with the best of them. They beat Tom Brady and they almost beat Aaron Rodgers, but so many times they beat themselves. So far, Eli Manning and the New York Giants have played the Green Bay Packers closer than any other team this season. If they should meet again, I predict the NY Giants will win.
Eli Manning is Elite
Nonetheless, Sunday was a great day and Eli Manning and his mates played a great game. Congratulations are in order, and if they can hold on to the same strong spirit of determination, NY Giants fans will have a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. Eli Manning is an elite quarterback in the league no matter what other people say. He believes it, his teammates believe it, and the fans believe it. That’s it.
Enjoy your day!
Thanksgiving Day Shopping
Has anyone noticed how we are gradually skipping over Thanksgiving Day and heading to Black Friday? What is wrong with this picture? As I posted in one of my Tweets, “only a turkey wants to skip Thanksgiving Day and head to Black Friday. That is completely understandable. But for everybody else, we need to slow down and enjoy our families and friends at the dinner table on Thanksgiving Day. That is just how I feel about it. I love a bargain, but I am not about to be trampled and pepper sprayed for a $199 laptop or $25 DVD player. That money cannot bury you. Stores should really stay closed until at least midnight.
Black Friday Deals or Steals
Business need to make money. If they do not make money they have to close and we all depend on each other to survive. I think we all understand that, nonetheless, there ought to be a day when if we say this is Thanksgiving Day we treat it as such. So, now we come to the Black Friday deals. I looked through the papers and on the website of the major chain stores. There were some amazing deals, but what they don’t tell you is that there are usually 10 to a store. If you are not 1-10 on line, I don’t think you’re getting anything. Walmart, Best Buy, Target, Sears, and Macy’s were the real big players in this Black Friday and they really came pretty good. The $199 32″ television at Best Buy was the best deal I saw. What consumers need to understand is that Black Friday is the day business aim to get out of the red and into the black. Consumers do the opposite; they get out of the black and go into the red. This will not stop because even in a year of recession and high unemployment Black Friday sales were up over $1.4 billion over 2010.
Cyber Monday is coming
Cyber Monday is getting bigger and bigger every year. That is the day when you sit at your computer, mouse in hand, and fingers ready to click as you see a good deal. This is Internet shopping and it is awesome. No crowds to push and pull you. You shop in the comfort of your living room because you were smart to take the day off. For those not so smart, you have to do it on your lunch time or after 5p.m. Either way, Cyber Monday will break records in 2011. Happy shopping.
Photography Tips on Turkey Day
Thanksgiving Day is a great day for great photographs. You have the family there, and the table is beautiful, the house is decorated, it is just a picture perfect moment if you recognize it as such. SO, here are some tips and for many of you they will be things you already know, but as a professional photographer, I have sometimes missed the little things.
1. Check your camera before you leave home to make sure it is working. That means turning it on and firing a shot.
2. Change your batteries. Always start each photoshoot with fresh batteries. Then make sure you have extra batteries.
3. Take an extra memory card just in case something happens to one. Memory cards are reasonable so you should always keep a back up. Better to have two 4GB’s than one 8GB.
4. Plan what you are going to do with the pictures before you even take them. Are you taking them for an album, are you putting them on a website for the family to view, or are you making a photo book?
5. Take posed portraits. For example, just before dinner have everyone gather at the table. have them stay behind the table with some seated and standing. You stand in front of the table so you get the turkey and all the table decorations. Have the families stay together so the relationships can be easier to note later.
6. Get the important pictures. The preparation. The table. The turkey. Family praying before dinner. Laos take a few during dinner. Warning: Do not take pictures with anyone holding a glass. It could send the wrong message.
7. Get the candid shots. Make sure you have a telephoto lens so you don’t have to get too close.
8. There you have it. Gobble, Gobble! Snap! Snap!
HAPPY THANKSGIVING DAY 2011
Happy Thanksgiving Day is what it really is, but there is so much talk about the turkey, we could just call it “Happy Turkey Day.” Nonetheless, the history and the reason for this day is crystal clear that we have been through so much as a nation that there ought to be one day when we can cease from our labor and thank our creator. Truly, God is good to us in America. I believe that tables everywhere today will have food, it might not even be a turkey, but there will be something to eat. Let’s really thank God for keep our nation safe and for preserving us in the face of dangers. God bless you and your family. May every member be present and accounted for. Happy Thanksgiving Day and God Bless America!

Hello World, Words are not enough to express the bitter sweet emotions of Regis Philbin leaving daytime television. Live with Regis and kelly will go on, but it will not be the same without Regis Philbin. Whenever I get the chance I always tune in at 9:00a.m. and from start to finish Regis Philbin keeps you laughing. He is simply an amazing and extrordinary human being. He was made for television. It is indeed heart warming to hear he is not retiring, he is just moving on. That is really a wonderful way to look at what we do with our lives. He is not retiring- he is moving on.
REGIS – NONE LIKE HIM!
There is no one like Regis because he is an original. Jerry Seinfeld and whoever else they might put in the chair can only be themselves. We know Kelly can hold her own and that is great. what Regis has taught the rest of the world, is that you should always be doing something. Keep working as long as you can. Don’t retire at 65 and then sit at home and whither away. Did you know Regis is 80 years old? He is an amazing man. Regis, walk good. We hope to see you make cameo appearances here and there. There is another chapter to your life and we hope we will see when you are writing it. Television needs you.We cannot display this gallery
Sports is really big business. The NBA lockout is going on with no end in sight. Do you miss basketball or are you wishing and hoping it will be back soon? I think the players who make millions and are the superstars are not understanding that they cannot look at the issue from their point of view only. They have to see it from the view point of the other players who are making $2M or $3M and have no Nike or or sneaker endorsement.
In a league with wbout 500 players, only about 50 are really stars, and of that number, only about 20 are really superstars. The problem is that the league is driven by the few superstars. Who really cares about the people who work the concession stands at the areans? Who cares about their families? Do they make millions of dollars so that they can take a season off?
The way I see it, both players and owners are losing each day there is no basketball. Money lost by the players will never be recovered. The news says they are meeting today without the mediator. That’s a good sign. If they keep talking to each other they will be able to work something out. Basketball cannot afford to lose a season. Get it together and stop slam dunking each other.
If you have been following the World Series between Texas Rangers and the Cardinals, you must be talking about “phonegate” today. What really happened? Do you really believe the phone mix up? What are your opinions?
This is a short post because I am now using the Word Press theme to rebuild my website and right now it’s moving day. You can still check out my other blog at http://www.travelnyc.wordpress.com. Check out the photo gallery for great photos.
Mileposts Productions coming at you biger and better. We get it!
Fall is finally here and everyone is probably asking, “where did summer go?” Well, it is gone until next year. The seasons teach us so much about our own lives. We have to enjoy each season of our lives. Sometimes it will be summer and all is well, no tears, no sadness, all is great, and then things take a turn and all is gloomy and grey like today in New York City, but just go through the process and you will be just fine.
Just like we have to embrace the Autumn season or move somewhere else, we also have to embrace the season we are in and go through it. Seasons come to go. Summer does not last all year round, at least not in New York. So, since Autumn is here and we can at least see the beautiful splendor of our planet, grab a camera and let the road trip begin. You can enjoy the Autumn (Fall) season by capturing breathtaking photographs. Here are five tips to get started.
Tip #1- You need a real camera. Not a cellphone camera or an iPad mini. A real camera. It can be a point and shoot or fancy and expensive camera. All the major manufacturers have great cameras for under $200.00.
Tip #2 Get a tripod. it does not need to be expensive, it just need to be able to hold the weight of your camera. You can get one at Best Buy or PC Richards or any camera store for under $30.00.
Tip #3. Get at least two 8GB Memory cards. I prefer two memory cards more than one because of something happens to one you do not lose all your images. I photograph in RAW format and an 8 GB card can give me 400 images.
Tip #4 Do not leave our camera at home. The best camera is the one you have with you.
Tip #5 Go out everyday and take some photos and come back and print even one and hang it on your wall or use them for holiday postcards. If you just step outside your door you will see a tree with beautiful colors. Take the picture.
